Sen. Lindsey Graham spent his final months pushing so hard for conflict with Iran that at one point Benjamin Netanyahu told him to pump the brakes, according to unreleased documentary footage reviewed by the Wall Street Journal. In a March 4 phone call captured on camera, Graham floated a plan to get President Trump to join Israel in striking Hezbollah in Lebanon. Netanyahu, on speakerphone, urged restraint, saying Israel needed to keep its focus on Iran and avoid provoking Hezbollah into "going all the way" in response. Graham replied, "That's actually good counsel."
The footage, shot by filmmaker Alex Holder for an upcoming documentary titled Lindsey's Game, shows Graham cheering the start of US strikes on Iran in February—"Look what we've done here. I almost cried," he said—while claiming Trump was "jacked" about the war, calling it "the best thing I have ever done." Cameras followed Graham as he lobbied Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, fielded calls with national security adviser Jake Sullivan, and vented that too few Republicans were "selling this war." In one of his last interviews, Graham fretted that Trump was "letting this thing slip away," even as he joked that if the film flopped, he'd brand the filmmakers "a bunch of Communists and raise lots of money."
