The Michigan woman police say was murdered alongside her six children was publicly wrestling with what she described as a deeply troubled marriage. Posts from a Reddit account linked to Amanda "Mandy" Karolkiewicz portray infidelity, years of emotional turmoil, and stalled attempts at reconciliation with husband Kristopher, reports Detroit News. Kristopher Karolkiewicz is believed to have fatally shot his wife and children, ages 5 to 15, then set fire to the family home in Grand Haven before killing himself. Writing in support forums about five years after discovering his "affair" with an intern, Mandy said she stayed for their six kids. "I kept telling myself, 'I love my kids more than I hate my husband right now,'" she wrote in 2024.

She detailed "major red flags," a "toxic family dynamic" on his side, and his intense defensiveness in counseling. "He is so sensitive to correction that I'm feeling so discouraged that we'll ever be able to make progress," she wrote, per People. She also wrote of pushing her husband, per US Weekly: "He towers over me and destroyed me mentally. It felt like I was being assaulted and needed to fight back." She added it was "a fight to stay in a healthy place" and she was "often on the brink." In a statement, per WWMT, Karolkiewicz's parents say, "Words cannot adequately express our devastation."
