Susan Collins Is About to Get a Big Boost From Musk: Report

Elon Musk is poised to become a major player in this fall's Senate map, with Maine's Susan Collins at the center of his plans. Sources tell the New York Times that Musk has authorized his America PAC to deploy $100 million to $120 million to aid Collins and GOP candidates in Maine and at least seven other states, including Michigan, Ohio, Alaska, and Iowa, with possible moves in Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina. The effort is expected to focus heavily on door-to-door voter outreach.

America PAC hasn't confirmed those plans, and Collins' campaign says it has no connection to the group, per the Portland Press Herald. (She hasn't seemed like a fan of Musk in the past.) Democrats quickly framed the reported spending as proof that Collins is aligned with billionaire interests, while the campaign of her opponent, former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson, touted his working-class roots in contrast. Maine's race is already on track to be one of the nation's most expensive.
