It's Not a Bird, It's a Plane, and It Landed on Florida Highway

Drivers on a Florida interstate briefly shared the road with a small plane Monday morning. Authorities say a pilot and student pilot were forced to put their aircraft down on Interstate 10 near Pensacola after reporting engine trouble and the smell of burning oil shortly after takeoff from Pensacola International Airport. "We are not making the airport, we're going down on I-10," the pilot radioed, per WSVN. "We are lined up with I-10 trying to avoid the cars."

Trucker Eric Jordan captured the landing on video. "If I hadn't seen a shadow over my truck and slowed down, he would have been on the inside of the cab," Jordan told WEAR. "It was a close call for the truck and for the sign, but he landed, he kept it in control." No injuries were reported; Jordan helped warn other drivers as crews moved the plane off the highway. The Florida Highway Patrol says a mechanical issue with the engine appears to be the cause.
