President Trump's main super PAC has finally cracked open its wallet in Texas, answering the pleas of Republicans there. MAGA Inc. has reserved $10 million in streaming and digital ads in the state's tight Senate race, the Texas Tribune reports, its first general election spending this cycle. The money will be split between ads boosting Republican Ken Paxton and attacking Democrat James Talarico, who has been leading narrowly in polls and dominating the money race. The spending was revealed in a filing on Saturday with the Federal Election Commission, per the AP.
Talarico has raised more than $30 million this quarter to Paxton's $9 million and has shelled out over $40 million on general election ads, per the Tribune. The MAGA Inc. buy follows $1.4 million in anti-Talarico spending by the Elon Musk-backed America PAC and protestations by national GOP groups that they don't have the budget for expensive Texas airtime. Senate Republican leaders have been openly pressuring Trump to fill the gap in a contest analysts now call a toss-up, in a state where Democrats haven't won statewide in more than 30 years. He's been murky about his plans for using the money to support Republicans, saying it's his, and the uncertainty hasn't helped donations. On Friday, the president told reporters, "I'm going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us."
