Pills that don't fully dissolve are now at the center of a nationwide blood-pressure drug recall. Inventia Healthcare Limited of Mumbai, India, is pulling 13,567 bottles of 25mg chlorthalidone tablets after finding they may not break down correctly in the body—meaning patients could get less medication than prescribed, per the Hill. The affected bottles carry the batch number RISA24002 and expire in April 2027.

The recall, announced on Sept. 3 and classified on Sept. 17 by the FDA as a Class II risk, follows a similar June recall by the company. Class II indicates that the drug could cause temporary or medically reversible health issues, a lower tier than recalls involving life-threatening harm. Nearly half of US adults have high blood pressure, or hypertension, per the CDC. Chlorthalidone serves as a diuretic that boosts urine flow to decrease the amount of water and salt in the body, which in turn lowers blood pressure, per USA Today, citing the Mayo Clinic.
