A new, or new-ish, Spider-Man might be swinging back into theaters sooner than expected—part of a growing Hollywood trend. Deadline reports that Sony is weighing a new cut of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, complete with fresh footage meant to lure audiences for another round. Gizmodo notes that the move follows last weekend's lucrative rerelease of Avengers: Endgame with new footage, seven years after the original's debut. Also, Sony did something similar with Spider-Man: No Way Home back in 2022 when it released a More Fun Stuff Edition.
No word yet on when the new version of Brand New Day might hit theaters. The original recently claimed the top spot in US box office history, edging past Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and currently sits roughly $50 million shy of a $1 billion domestic haul. A strategic rerelease could help push it over the mark. Among the likely additions are deleted scenes featuring Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.
