A Delta passenger at John Wayne Airport in California's Orange County allegedly slipped out of a terminal door Tuesday evening and stole a vehicle. An airport rep says that after gaining access to the tarmac near gate 12 around 5:30pm, the man took an Alaska Airlines tug used for moving luggage carts or planes and drove it down a taxiway to gate 7, where he crashed into another vehicle. He then allegedly tried to switch to an American Airlines lavatory service truck before airport police stopped him, reports CNN. Crews quickly checked the taxiway for debris; ABC7 reports flights were briefly halted but no ground stop was issued. The suspect, identified by the Orange County Sheriff's Department as 26-year-old Jay Barr, faces charges including vehicle theft, trespassing, and vandalism.
