Jordan Elliott's first season with the Tennessee Titans ended abruptly after what coach Robert Saleh called a "terrible lapse in judgment." The defensive lineman was released Tuesday after officials say he brought a gun to the team's training facility on Thursday. NBC News reports league rules strictly ban firearms at team sites, stadiums, hotels, and on team transportation. The Athletic reports tackle JC Latham says he got into a "minor" altercation with Elliott during Thursday's practice, and that Elliott then went to his car to allegedly retrieve the gun; Latham says another player intervened. ESPN reports a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo the gun never left the vicinity of Elliott's parking spot.
Saleh came to Elliott's defense, calling him "a good man." He continued, "To me, those are small signs of a cry for help. Obviously there is something greater happening. ... In the last year, the NFL has lost two outstanding men to taking their own lives because they may have been crying for help and everyone ignored it." As for the 28-year-old's future prospects, "My message to 31 other teams would be: If you need a hell of a run-stopping DT that can help you on a playoff run, give me a call," said Saleh. The NFL says the matter is under review. Elliott had appeared in the Titans' first five games this season before being listed inactive Sunday for non-injury, personal reasons. He previously played for the San Francisco 49ers and the Cleveland Browns.
