Pat Murphy took a swing at the Yankees after the Brewers won the World Series Wednesday night. In a viral clip from the Brewers' on-field celebration Wednesday, the Milwaukee manager is heard telling first baseman Jake Bauers, who is headed for free agency, "You're going to be a rich f---er," ESPN reports. He added, "Just remember when you're on that horse s--- Yankee team and you're all playing for yourselves ... Just remember, this is the way we used to do it," per USA Today.
Murphy presented Bauers with the ball that he caught for the final out of Milwaukee's title-clinching win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Bauers, who has played for the Rays, among others, spent the 2023 season with the Yankees before being traded and reviving his career in Milwaukee. USA Today predicts that he will be in high demand on the free agent market after a breakout season in which he scored career bests with a batting average of .266, 26 home runs, 86 RBIs, 93 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases.
- After the World Series win, the first in the team's history, Brewers captain Christian Yelich paid tribute to longtime Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker, who died last year at age 90, the AP reports. "Uecky, I love you, man," Yelich said. "We did it." Uecker was the team's play-by-play announcer for 54 seasons. "He's smiling, man," Yelich said. "He's smiling. I really wish he could have been here to see this. That would have meant everything to him. But like we said a bunch, he's been with us a lot. We keep him close to our hearts. This one's still for Bob."
