Police in Winter Park, Florida, were called to a public park over the weekend to deal with an incident involving an athletically talented 3-year-old at a children's soccer game. Bodycam video released on Monday shows officers approaching the parents of young Nevada, whose family says he was booted from the i9 Sports league not for bad behavior, but because he was racking up goals against less-skilled players, reports ESPN. The league organizer told officers that Nevada was indeed "very advanced" on the field but was also pushing other kids, and that his parents became combative after he was benched.
Video shared by the family doesn't show any shoving (see some of the footage of Nevada's skills here). Police declined to eject the family from the public park or cite them for trespassing, noting they lacked the authority to do so. The league offered the family a refund of nearly $300. "I kind of ... want to see him play," one curious officer is heard saying at the end of the interaction. Meanwhile, the confrontation has attracted attention from at least one big name, per Yahoo News. "This is racist, sick, traumatizing and disgusting," children's educator Ms. Rachel wrote on Instagram, noting she was "livid" over what had happened. "The police were called on a [3-year-old] Black boy because he's too good at soccer."
