They Were Shopping at Spirit Halloween. Then, 'Big Bangs'

A shooting on Friday night at a mall in Fairfield has left one person dead and six wounded, California authorities said. Police said they responded to a shooting at around 8:30pm inside Solano Town Center at the Spirit Halloween store there, reports the AP. They said on Facebook that there were seven confirmed victims with gunshot wounds, one of whom later died of their injuries. The others have been taken to local hospitals, with at least three victims reported as being in critical condition.

A witness told local media that his wife was inside the Spirit Halloween store when gunfire broke out, and that she and others managed to flee via an emergency exit, per NBC News. "She's at home right now, still in shock," the man said, noting that his spouse told him she'd heard "five big bangs, big ones, like loud."

There was no further information available on the identity of the victims or the details of the shooting. An investigation is underway. Police said the location remains an active crime scene, with officers talking to witnesses to identify the suspect responsible for the shooting. KCRA notes that anyone with info on the shooting should call police at 707-428-7600 or email 1030mall@fairfield.ca.gov.
