Rebel Wilson's text messages and Instagram posts are now under a judicial microscope in Sydney, where a young co-star says the actor-director went public with a sexual harassment claim that never happened. Charlotte MacInnes, who appears in Wilson's film The Deb, is suing for defamation over Wilson's claims that MacInnes was sexually harassed by producer Amanda Ghost, filed a complaint, then changed her story to boost her career, per the BBC. MacInnes' lawyer called the allegations "fantasy" and "malicious concoctions," arguing MacInnes never lodged a complaint and that Wilson weaponized an innocent incident for "leverage" during a dispute with producers over budget and contracts.

In court, lawyers walked through texts and emails about a 2023 Bondi Beach outing that ended with MacInnes and Ghost sharing an "oversized" bath in swimsuits after Ghost suffered an allergic reaction to cold water. Wilson has said MacInnes initially told her she felt uncomfortable, then backtracked to appease Ghost, who gave her the lead role in a stage show, per Deadline. Wilson has also argued producers tried to block the film's premiere in retaliation for her raising the issue, per Reuters. In one text shown in court, Wilson appears to acknowledge a misunderstanding, writing that MacInnes "just meant 'it was a bizarre situation' not that she personally felt uncomfortable." The trial, live-streaming on YouTube, unfolds as Wilson faces separate legal battles in Australia and the US involving The Deb's producers.
