The captain of a Delta flight heading from Miami to Atlanta turned the plane around before takeoff Monday after a passenger allegedly wouldn't hang up her phone. Police say 39-year-old Shannon Marie Harris of Tyrone, Georgia, was repeatedly told to end a call as the plane was taxiing and flight attendants began safety instructions but refused, then became "belligerent," prompting the pilot to return to the gate, reports FOX5 Atlanta. Irate passengers, including one who kept calling out "please be considerate," can be heard in a video taken on the plane and shared by WSVN.
Once back at the gate, a Delta supervisor reportedly asked Harris to leave the aircraft; police say she declined, leading the airline to have everyone deplane. Officers say Harris then tried to exit with the rest of the passengers and was arrested on trespassing-related charges. Delta says the flight departed about an hour late and issued an apology, adding that safety is its top priority and that it has "zero tolerance for disruptive behavior."
