President Trump is lashing out after a federal judge ordered his name taken off the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In a Friday social media post, the president blasted the ruling and noted he couldn't be involved with the high-profile project unless he can steer the institution as he sees fit, calling further involvement "a hopeless journey," per the New York Times. Trump criticized US District Judge Christopher Cooper, saying the judge should be "ashamed of himself" and accusing him and "the Radical Left" of preferring to see the institution "die" rather than let Trump reshape it the way he wants to.
Trump, who assumed control of the center at the start of his second term, also claimed he "cannot be involved with a situation where danger to the Public is allowed to flourish in plain and open sight," without specifying what danger he was referring to. "I have instructed the Department of Commerce to make all necessary arrangements with Congress to allow a full and complete transfer of this Institution, giving them the responsibility for its Operation, Maintenance, and Management," Trump wrote. Cooper's order not only required Trump's name to be removed from the marble facade, but it also temporarily blocked the Kennedy Center from closing this summer for renovations. The center says it plans to appeal. The Atlantic has more on the arts center "[entering] the unknown."
