Monday morning has brought no breakthrough in the talks for a peace deal between the US and Iran. Instead, the two sides continued to skirmish—including an Iranian strike at Kuwait described by the Wall Street Journal as a "dangerous escalation." The details:

  • Tehran launched two ballistic missiles at American forces stationed in Kuwait, but both missiles were safely intercepted, reports the New York Times. Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it struck in retaliation for US attacks on Iranian radar and drone sites. The two sides also shot down each other's drones over the weekend.

  • Oil prices were climbing Monday, with the price of Brent crude up about 4% to $95 a barrel, reports CNBC.
  • Complicating all of the above: Israel ordered its troops deeper into Lebanon to confront Iran-backed Hezbollah, per Reuters.
  • In a late-night post on social media, President Trump said that Iran "really wants to make a deal," and he complained that his job is made more difficult "when political hacks keep negatively 'chirping'" about the negotiations. "Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end," he wrote.
