Pop star Sabrina Carpenter has obtained court-ordered distance from an alleged stalker she blames for one of "the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced." A Los Angeles County judge on Monday approved a temporary restraining order against 31-year-old William Applegate, barring him from coming within 100 yards of Carpenter, her sister Sarah, and Sarah's partner at their Hollywood Hills home, as well as from her workplace and vehicle, per NBC News. In filings last week, Carpenter alleged Applegate tried to force her front door open on May 23, then struck a security guard who confronted him, claiming Carpenter was expecting him.
A Los Angeles police detective described Applegate as having developed a "disturbing and irrational fixation" on the 27-year-old singer; security footage and staff reportedly tie him to repeated visits to her neighborhood dating back to April. Applegate was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor trespassing in the May 23 incident but allegedly returned to the area on subsequent days, sometimes staying for hours, per Rolling Stone. Carpenter wrote that his "stalking, trespassing, and surveillance" have caused severe emotional distress and that she fears what might happen without court intervention. The restraining order could be extended at a hearing on June 17, one day before Applegate appears in criminal court.
