Zip ties, duct tape, and paracord were found on a man accused of attacking five women on UCLA's Westwood campus in a span of less than 60 minutes, prosecutors say. Los Angeles County prosecutors have charged 29-year-old Olumuyiwa Akindahunsi, who is not a student, with attempted kidnapping to commit rape, three counts of assault with intent to commit rape during a first-degree burglary, and two counts of assault likely to cause serious injury, Fox News reports. Four of the five women are students. The UCLA Police Department described Akindahunsi as homeless and said he did not have permission to be on campus, reports NBC News.

Authorities say the May 28 incidents began around 11:30pm on the Bruin Walk campus walkway, where a woman was attacked and her phone taken. Minutes later, Akindahunsi allegedly followed two women into their dorm, sexually assaulting one and assaulting the other before they escaped. Prosecutors say he then entered another dorm, tried to kidnap a woman in a hallway, then sexually assaulted a different woman there until another resident intervened. Campus police arrested him near a parking structure after witnesses flagged them down; multiple witnesses later identified him, officials say. He is being held without bail and faces more than 30 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

In a news release, UCLA Chief of Police Craig Valenzuela praised officers for their quick response and victims and witnesses for assisting police. "In each incident, the victims were able to fight back or witnesses intervened, allowing the victims to get away and notify police," the department said. "These disturbing attacks strike at the core of campus safety, traumatizing five victims and unsettling campus life," Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said. "We are working closely with the UCLA Police Department to bring the attacker to justice and ensure that he will be held fully accountable for his actions."
