A change of plans on an ATV ride likely saved a Minnesota woman's life. Two men riding off-road vehicles near the tiny town of Backus spotted a lone van in a remote clearing—then realized a person was lying in a muddy pool beside it, reports KARE 11. At first, Adam Sandbeck and Mike Gravalin thought they'd found a body. Then the woman whispered, "Help me." Authorities identified her as 68-year-old Kathryn Woessner of Alexandria, who had been missing for three days when she was found on June 6, per USA Today.

Sandbeck tells KARE 11 that only the "round part" of her face was visible above the mud, which Woessner described as "like quicksand." The men pulled her out and called 911. Woessner was taken to a Brainerd hospital, and her condition has not been released. Investigators haven't said how she ended up stranded in the remote area, but Woessner told her rescuers that she was trying to free her vehicle from the mud when she got stuck herself, reports ABC News.
