A Jet2 flight from Cyprus to Manchester ended with a passenger dead and two investigations underway, the BBC reports. Police say 35-year-old Callum Kerr, an English bare-knuckle fighter, was being held down by passengers and crew after allegedly attacking another traveler and a cabin crew member in the early hours of Monday. Officers boarded the plane on landing, handcuffed Kerr, then realized he was unresponsive and began CPR, Greater Manchester Police said. He died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon, the Guardian reports. Sources tell the Warrington Guardian Kerr, who was from Warrington, had been fighting with his girlfriend on the flight and became aggressive after crew members moved her to another seat.
Kerr's family described him as "a family man, father to three beautiful young children, a lover of sport and with a heart of gold." Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which stressed that the five officers involved are currently being treated as witnesses, rather than their conduct being under investigation. The watchdog is reviewing body camera footage and officer statements, while the police department is separately examining the actions of passengers and crew who helped restrain Kerr. Jet2 offered condolences but said it would not comment further while inquiries continue.
