Marvel Reveals the New Black Panther

Marvel's next king of Wakanda has a new face, the Guardian reports. Director Ryan Coogler announced at Comic-Con in San Diego that British actor David Jonsson will take up the Black Panther mantle in the third film, playing the grown son of Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. Jonsson, 32, joined Coogler and cast members Letitia Wright and Winston Duke on stage for the reveal. Boseman died in 2020 at age 43. The character of Prince T'Challa II was introduced as a child in the second Black Panther film, Wakanda Forever, Variety reports.

Jonsson, a BAFTA Rising Star winner known for HBO's Industry and the upcoming Alien: Romulus, began his career on London's West End. "I don't want to say too much, because I want to let the screen do the talking," he told the crowd. Black Panther III is set to hit US theaters on Dec. 15, 2028; a UK date has not yet been announced. At the same event, Marvel Studios revealed that Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider in a film based on that comic book franchise, also due out in 2028, the AP reports.
