President Trump is now allowing that the Reflecting Pool mess wasn't solely the work of supposed vandals. After weeks of insisting that someone tore the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool's blue lining, Trump said Sunday that "some contractor error" from rushing the renovation for a July 4 opening also played a role in the damage, the New York Times reports. After the contractor began work earlier this year, the liner began to peel and an algae outbreak turned the water green.
Prosecutors had charged at least seven people, including former Olympian David Hearn, before dropping some cases. Trump still did not let his vandalism claim drop, per ABC News. "There was substantial other damage to the Reflecting Pool, also but, unfortunately, there is no video or proof, other than the damage, itself," he posted Sunday on social media. The pool remains drained, though Trump said it will reopen "shortly." Hearn's lawyers said Monday they're "reviewing all legal remedies" for what they described as "continued harassment."
