FBI Reportedly Seizes Swalwell's Devices at Airport

Federal agents have escalated the investigation into Eric Swalwell, seizing his electronics at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday before searching his Washington, DC, home on Sunday, sources tell CNN. CBS News notes that Swalwell was handed a search warrant before his devices were seized, as well as before the search of his home. The moves are part of a federal probe tied to sexual assault allegations against the former Democratic congressman, who left office in April after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are conducting parallel criminal investigations. The House Ethics Committee had also opened a probe into Swalwell before his resignation from Congress, per the Independent. Swalwell, once seen as a leading contender for California governor, ended that bid after a woman accused him of rape, an allegation he rejects as false. He has denied all wrongdoing. Separately, newly declassified FBI documents shed more light on Swalwell's past relationship with alleged Chinese operative Christine Fang, aka "Fang Fang."
