Erling Haaland, the striker whose flowing blond hair became part of the spectacle during Norway's surprise quarterfinal run at the 2026 World Cup, has chopped it all off in favor of a close-cropped buzz cut. The ponytail-free look drew varied reaction, including mockery from friends. ESPN reports the reveal came in a social media video posted Sunday, changing up a signature look that inspired fans to don Haaland wigs, share memes of his galloping runs, and stage a lookalike contest in Miami. That contest would now have very different entrants. Fans got a longer look Sunday in the Premier League season opener for his team, Manchester City. "New season, new trim," the video caption says.

In a longer YouTube clip, Haaland FaceTimed friends to gauge their reactions: Oasis' Noel Gallagher laughed but was supportive, former player Zlatan Ibrahimovic looked taken aback, and Manchester City teammate Jack Grealish told Haaland, "You look about 10 years old!" Gallagher estimated 17, per the BBC, but added: "It's good. Change is good." Ibrahimovic asked if Haaland had maybe lost a bet, adding, "Block me and erase my number."
