Netflix aired a trailer on Thursday ahead of an expected blockbuster, but in this case, it's in regard to a video game and not a movie. The streamer on Thursday premiered a 27-minute peek at Grand Theft Auto VI, which is due for a November 19 release, reports Variety. The clip follows protagonists Jason and Lucia through story and gameplay sequences in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. (An "enthralled" New York Times critic has a glowing review.)
Streaming platforms including Twitch struggled with bandwidth issues because of huge interest in the trailer, and shares of Take-Two, parent company of GTA-maker Rockstar Games, surged as a result, reports CNBC. Given the response, the outlet thinks it's a safe bet that GTA 6 "could rival its predecessor as one of the most profitable entertainment products of all time." The rollout comes amid ongoing leaks linked to a hacker group claiming to have a playable build of the game. Rockstar, which has filed subpoenas over the leaks, called the situation "heartbreaking" but said the game is "nearly there" and urged fans to wait for the official experience.
