Melinda French Gates Matches Festival's $10M Donation

Olivia Rodrigo's new music festival had its $10 million payday for women's causes instantly turned into $20 million. On Saturday night at Daisy Chain Fields in Southern California, Rodrigo told the crowd that Melinda French Gates had pledged to match every dollar raised, doubling the haul for 10 organizations focused on women's health, safety, and rights, per the Hollywood Reporter. "What @daisychainfields set in motion will last far beyond a single night," French Gates wrote on Instagram next to a photo of herself with Rodrigo, per Variety.

The inaugural two-day festival pulled in the first $10 million through ticket sales, sponsorships, and artists who performed without fees. Beneficiaries, which will split the money evenly, include Planned Parenthood, Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, the National Women's Law Center, and several other groups working on reproductive rights, maternal health, domestic work, and gender-based violence. Rodrigo praised French Gates, who joined her onstage, as a model of women's empowerment and told fans she was "floored" by the match.
