Colorado State University has said it's sorry after students at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins chanted an expletive-laced slur at "the Mormons" at a game against BYU on Saturday, USA Today reports. A statement released before the game ended apologized to BYU players, fans, and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, adding that mocking anyone's religion conflicts with the school's values and that the CSU is addressing the issue with students.

The episode adds to the abuse BYU, the church's flagship school, has taken from opponents; Oregon, Arizona men's basketball, Colorado football, and Cincinnati football have all issued similar apologies in recent seasons. "I think the chants, mostly a minority of people and fans. There's some amazing fans here in Fort Collins," said BYU coach Kalani Sitake, adding, "We're not going to judge an entire fan base on a few. His team won the game 41–23.
