Seven years after a New Year's Day mayday call off Rhode Island, investigators say they've likely found the fishing boat that went missing, as well as human remains. The nonprofit Green Oceans reports divers located a wreck 92 feet down whose features match the 52-foot F/V Mistress, which sank on Jan. 1, 2019. Three men were aboard: captain Oscar Diaz; his son Tim, who was rescued; and nephew John Ansay. Diaz and Ansay were never found, but human remains discovered at the site are thought to belong to them.

The wreck was located about 50 feet from a Block Island Wind Farm turbine. Green Oceans has asked federal officials to secure the wreck, reopen the Coast Guard probe, and examine whether the nearby wind farm affected the sinking or the rescue effort. While CBS News reports a slew of studies have found the wind farm has not had an unsafe impact on sea traffic, Green Oceans noted that the Coast Guard listed proximity to wind turbines as one of a number of reasons that caused a search helicopter to turn back.
