RJ Mitte, an actor who played Walter White's son on TV's Breaking Bad and advocated for disability rights, has died. He was 34. A representative said Mitte died Monday at his home in Brownsville, Texas, USA Today reports. The cause of death was not released. Mitte played Walter White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston's chemistry teacher-turned-meth dealer on nearly every episode of the five seasons of the AMC show, which recently ranked as the best of the 21st century in a New York Times poll, per the AP.
"Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion," his representatives' statement said. It added that the actor used "his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities." Mitte was 3 when he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, per USA Today. "Having a disability, it's not a disability," he once said. "It's knowledge that you can take into the world. It's something you can learn and grow from." He added, "To me, normal is whatever you make it."
