President Trump's exchange with a reporter on Tuesday went from tense to personal inside the Oval Office. While fielding questions on issues including the war in Ukraine and a new whistleblower reward plan, Trump pointed at the Independent's Andrew Feinberg and said, "I don't know who the hell you are, but you better be careful," Mediaite reports. "I had told him exactly who I was not five minutes before this exchange," Feinberg said on X. After Feinberg later started to ask a question about Trump's golf courses, Trump loudly told him to be quiet and asked, "What's wrong with you? Are you a sick person?"
The friction stemmed from Feinberg pressing Trump on why the administration's proposed reward for whistleblowers on government fraud is 1%, compared to 10% to 25% under the long-standing False Claims Act. Vice President JD Vance interjected to label the question "fundamentally dishonest," arguing most federal fraud isn't covered by that law.
"For doing my job, I became the target of Trump and his team. Soon after, Trump lectured and unleashed at me his White House rapid response called me a 'Mongoloid Moron'—which is a slur for someone with development disabilities, a phrase I would never use—and the Vice President on his official government account labeled me an 'imbecile,'" Feinberg writes at the Independent. On X, he responded to Vance, saying, "Mr. Vice President, if you're going to insult me at least have the guts to tag my account."
