Two British men are now facing national security charges tied to an incident outside a key US-run airbase in England last month. Mohmed Ahmad Abdulkarim, 24, of London, is accused of assisting a foreign intelligence service, reportedly Iran, following the discovery of three suspicious vans carrying gasoline near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on Sept. 27, per the BBC. Also charged: 24-year-old Nouman Essghir of London, who prosecutors say entered a restricted site on Aug. 22 for a purpose harmful to the UK. He was first arrested near the scene on Sept. 27, released, then rearrested last week.
The two men are due at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Eight men in total have been arrested in the probe. One man, first arrested Oct. 1, then rearrested alongside Essghir last week, was released without charge but remains under police bail, reports Sky News. Residents were evacuated from the area amid suspicions of a terror plot and the US later pulled its bombers from the air base. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has publicly claimed Iran's connection to the incident, while Tehran denies any involvement.
