Movie Critic Joel Siegel Dead at 63

Joel Siegel, the veteran film critic for Good Morning America known for concision and wit, died yesterday after a long battle with colon cancer. Siegel's good humor and enthusiasm for movies didn't stop him from delivering a well-aimed pan.  "No one had more fun writing about a bad movie than Joel,"  one station manager told the AP.

Siegel, who was born in LA, was involved in the civil rights movement in the '60s, and worked as a joke writer for Robert Kennedy; he was at the Ambassador Hotel when the senator was assassinated, the New York Times reports. Siegel learned he had colon cancer at 57, just before becoming a father for the first time. He wrote a book for his son, which was published in 2003.
