Michael J. Fox assured fans he was alive and well after CNN mistakenly aired a tribute video titled, "Remembering the life of actor Michael J. Fox."
- "How do you react when you turn on the TV and CNN is reporting your death?" Fox wrote on Threads. "Do you…A) switch to MNSBC, or whatever they are calling themselves these days, (B) Pour scolding hot water on your lap, if it hurts your fine, (C) Call your wife, hopefully she's concerned but reassuring, (D) Relax, they do this once every year, (E) Ask yourself wtf? I thought the world was ending, but apparently it's just me and I'm ok. Love, Mike."
The segment published Wednesday looked like a pre-produced obituary, highlighting the 64-year-old's rise from Family Ties star Alex P. Keaton to Back to the Future lead Marty McFly, and later his advocacy as a high-profile figure living with Parkinson's, Entertainment Weekly reports. It included clips from his work and excerpts from interviews. "In the end, Fox came to understand that his battle against the disease brought out the best in him," the video said. CNN pulled the piece from its platforms and apologized. "The package was published in error; we have removed it from our platforms and send our apologies to Michael J. Fox and his family," the network said in a statement
The false alarm came as Fox is actively back on screen, Variety reports. He appeared in person earlier this week at PaleyFest LA in Hollywood with the cast of the Apple TV+ series Shrinking, where he has a guest role opposite Harrison Ford in Season 3—his first acting job since 2020, after previously saying Parkinson's symptoms had pushed him to retire. Creator Bill Lawrence said he wants Fox back for Season 4, and Fox told the crowd, "I would love to do it —it would be my honor."
