Americans aren't exactly clamoring to see Donald Trump's name in their wallets. A new Economist/YouGov poll finds 59% of respondents either somewhat or strongly disapprove of adding the former president's signature to all US paper currency, a plan the Treasury Department revealed in March as part of the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary.

Support for the move sits at 24%, with 18% undecided, reports the Hill. The partisan split is sharp: 92% of Democrats, 65% of independents, and 20% of Republicans say they disapprove. Axios flags another YouGov poll on the same topic, conducted two weeks earlier, that found a nearly identical split (the only tweaked figures were 19% undecided, with 23% approving).

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has framed the move as a tribute to both the country and Trump, calling dollar bills bearing his name "historic currency" for the Semiquincentennial. The Commission of Fine Arts has also signed off on a $1 gold coin featuring Trump's likeness for the same celebration.
