Freddie Mercury is still moving the needle, more than three decades after his death. Parade reports that the late Queen frontman has been crowned the greatest vocalist of all time by music site Consequence, which assembled a top-100 list by surveying more than 50 musicians, including industry icons like Randy Blythe, Mike Patton, and Linda Perry. The outlet said it focused on vocalists who tapped into their creativity and vision, not just their raw talent, "to push their instruments where no one else could go."
Born Farrokh Bulsara in 1946, Mercury became famous for his range and theatrical stage presence. Diagnosed with AIDS in 1987, he died in 1991 at the age of 45. He never won a competitive Grammy during his lifetime, but Queen later received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
