Parents at a Bronx high school weren't imagining things when they thought a new "teen" looked a bit old for homeroom. Police say 28-year-old Kacy Claassen posed as a 16-year-old and successfully enrolled at Westchester Square Academy on April 13 using the name Shamara Rashad, reports ABC7. According to a criminal complaint, Claassen also told the principal she'd come from Ohio. Those details seemed to fly until he found the Facebook page she'd neglected to take down that indicated she was 28.
Officials say she then admitted her real age and said a friend had told her to lie so she could get more public assistance. Claassen was arrested at the school on April 27 and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal impersonation, and other offenses, reports News12. She was released without bail and is due back in court June 15. New York City Public Schools called enrollment fraud a "serious crime" and said the NYPD is investigating.
