Two Bodies Found Days Apart on North Carolina Trail

A grim discovery along a North Carolina nature trail has led to two murder charges—and few public answers so far. Authorities say two people have been arrested after the bodies of a man and a woman were found in separate spots along the Mountain Nature Trail at Simpson Park in Glen Alpine earlier this month, reports People. The suspects, both 36 and described as homeless, are identified as Jamar Quarmaine Propst and Tosha Lee Lewis. Each faces two counts of first-degree murder, per a joint statement from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators began searching the trail on July 20 after a tip about suspicious activity and discovered human remains the next day, later identified as those of 31-year-old Raheim McClain Murray. After Propst and Lewis were taken into custody on July 25, authorities found a second set of remains, belonging to 39-year-old Carla Janon Murray, elsewhere on the trail. The two victims lived together in a home near Morganton, reports the Charlotte Observer. Officials have not said how the two were killed or how they might be connected to the suspects.
