President Trump's signature is about to turn up on US currency, a rarity for a sitting president. Now, the Washington Post reports that plans to put Trump's portrait on paper currency are advancing as well. Two top officials—Treasury chief Brandon Beach and adviser Mike Brown—have urged the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to prep prototypes of a $250 bill featuring Trump, according to the newspaper. The idea has been floated in Congress as part of the nation's 250th anniversary commemoration, though laws currently limit currency images to the dead. The Post story suggests the idea is more tangible than realized, and the newspaper has seen early designs for the currency.

The Post spoke with British painter Iain Alexander, who created the design and says Trump endorsed it with a few tweaks. Beach then reportedly passed along the design to the engraving bureau. It's not clear whether any engravings have emerged. A Treasury Department spokesperson says the printing office "is conducting appropriate planning and due diligence" in the wake of the proposed legislation in Congress. The story also reports that Patricia Solimene, director of the printing bureau, was "abruptly reassigned" after she raised objections to the idea.
