Shia LaBeouf's latest run-in with the law has ended with a guilty plea and a to-do list. The 38-year-old actor on Wednesday pleaded guilty to three counts of simple battery tied to a Feb. 17 incident outside a New Orleans bar, where prosecutors say he punched two men and head-butted a third after being told to leave. NOLA.com reports a judge handed down a six-month suspended sentence, two years' probation, mandatory alcohol rehab, sensitivity training, and anger management classes.
The Guardian reports LaBeouf's lawyer called it a "minor … bar tussle" and said the actor is eager to move on, while denying bias factored into his behavior. Witnesses alleged LaBeouf hurled anti-gay slurs during the confrontation, but his lawyer argued "there is no evidence it was about bias or prejudice, which is why the state only charged these low level misdemeanors." The lawyer for one alleged victim, who performs in drag as Jeffrey Damnit, said the outcome showed fame did not sway the process and urged LaBeouf to "do better." A 2017 disorderly conduct arrest, one of several brushes LaBeouf has had with the law, also led to court-ordered rehab.
