Authorities in Tucson are now hunting a second alleged kidnapper, though investigators say there's no sign she's tied to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, Fox News reports. The Pima County Sheriff's Department has issued a "be on the lookout" alert for 40-year-old Coral Michelle Smith in connection with a May 29 kidnapping and aggravated assault with a weapon at River Road and La Cholla Boulevard, roughly 7 miles from Guthrie's home in the Catalina Foothills. Officials have released few details on that case. Court records show Smith has past charges including kidnapping, assault, and disorderly conduct; a 2020 kidnapping count was dropped, but she was convicted of residential robbery involving a victim under 15. She has several aliases and distinctive tattoos and is described as 5-foot-6, 136 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes.
Investigators stress they've found no link between Smith and Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, who vanished Feb. 1. No suspects have been named in that case, though video shows a backpack-wearing visitor on her porch, described as a few inches taller than Smith. Anyone seeing Smith is urged to call 911; tips on her case can go to Tucson's 88-CRIME line, and information on Nancy Guthrie's abduction to 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Meanwhile, the sheriff's department also announced it is cracking down on "YouTubers" disrupting Guthrie's neighborhood as the search for her continues, KVOA reports. And Savannah Guthrie spoke to Jenna Bush Hager on Today Monday about her return to the show in April despite the ongoing heartbreak of not knowing where her mother is. "It's like the two hours of my day—it's not that I'm not thinking about it, because I am—but it's something to do. It brings me a lot of joy to be with everybody. But no, it's not easy."
