Marjorie Taylor Greene says she's uninsured—and is turning that claim into content. The former Georgia congresswoman announced in the debut episode of her new social media series, Life With MTG, that at 52 she does not carry health insurance in the US and instead traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for stem cell therapy. In the episode, posted on X and YouTube, Greene says the treatment, derived from umbilical cord cells (not embryos, she stresses), isn't approved by the FDA. She said lack of insurance is part of a broader "healthcare crisis" she blames on the Affordable Care Act, USA Today reports.
- "Healthcare costs are out of control, and more Americans are leaving the US for medical tourism treatments they can't access in the United States or can't afford at home," Greene says in the episode.
Greene also asserts that more than a quarter of Americans under 65 lack insurance, a figure experts put closer to 10%, according to KFF data largely tied to changes in Medicaid coverage. Critics online questioned why a reported multimillionaire would forgo coverage many can't afford. A GoBankingRates estimate has pegged her net worth as high as $25 million, a number she publicly disputes while emphasizing she was wealthy from her family's construction business before entering Congress.
Greene resigned from Congress in January, which made her ineligible for the federal employee health plans available to sitting or retired members who meet service requirements. Earlier this month, she told TMZ that she had traveled to Mexico with fiancé Brian Glenn for anti-aging stem cell treatments. She called for the therapy to be legalized in the US and said that she had chosen to spend her money on treatments she believes work best for her instead of carrying health insurance.
