Runner Calls Out Fellow American's Finish-Line Move

Noah Lyles lost a 100-meter sprint by a hair on Sunday, but he made sure Trayvon Bromell heard from him afterward, USA Today reports. At the Paris 2026 Diamond League meet, Bromell blasted out of lane eight and held off a charging Lyles to win in 9.91 seconds, a season best and just 0.01 ahead of Lyles' 9.92. Tokyo Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs was third in 9.96. As Bromell crossed the line, he glanced inward—a look Lyles seemed to interpret as a bit of showmanship.

On social media, Lyles responded with a pointed reminder: "Carefully there (Trayvon). The last person who did this to me didn't even make the podium next time we met," referencing Jamaica's Oblique Seville, who once stared him down while beating him, then later that season finished eighth at the Paris Olympics while Lyles took 100-meter gold. Bromell's narrow win underscores how volatile the event remains; no man has repeated as world champion in the 100 since Usain Bolt last did it in 2015. The Athletic says Lyles had a slow start that ultimately cost him the win. In all, five runners logged sub-10 finishes, per Bleacher Report.
