Trump's Name Is Now on Airport, but One Thing Is Lagging

Travelers headed to West Palm Beach now face a two-name, two-code reality. The airport formerly known as Palm Beach International was officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport on Thursday, but CBS News reports that its familiar PBI code will stick around until Aug. 18. Regardless, Eric Trump said the president was the first to land at his brand new namesake, notes NPR, touching down at 5:01am. "There is no person who has done more for Florida and our country, and no one more deserving of this incredible honor," the son wrote on X. "As a son, and someone who flies out of this airport nearly every day, I will forever be proud to see the initials 'DJT' on my boarding pass."

Until Aug. 18, however, pilots and air-traffic controllers will use the new DJT identifier, while passengers will still see PBI on tickets and in search tools. Airlines say their systems are "hard coded" to prevent mix-ups, and early on, typing PBI into airline sites will still pull up flights to the newly named airport. Flight attendants will also be allowed to welcome passengers to "West Palm Beach" instead of using the full Trump name. The rare code change was requested by major airlines and approved by the International Air Transport Association, which typically treats such identifiers as permanent.
