$15K Reward Offered in Grim Music Festival Mystery

Authorities are turning to the public in a grim mystery out of a popular Michigan music festival. The FBI is offering up to $15,000 for tips that help identify whoever left a dead newborn in a portable toilet at the Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury late last month, Michigan State Police said Monday. The infant's body was discovered June 28 by a restroom company worker doing routine maintenance on a unit in the campground area, Rolling Stone reports.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate the baby "was viable and was born alive," police says, but investigators are withholding further details to "protect the integrity of the investigation." State police say they're confident forensic work and ongoing leads will reveal who is responsible. Police say a woman from Muskegon was questioned after a tip but she has now been eliminated as a suspect, People reports.

The death is one of two serious incidents linked to this year's festival; a separate case involving a 28-year-old attendee's apparent suicide is also under investigation. Illinois man Jerard Jackson was found dead in a wooded area close to where his rental vehicle was parked, the Detroit Free Press reports. Police said there was no sign of foul play.
