Husband Will Testify in Defense of Wife Accused of Killing Kids

The Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children will face trial starting July 20—and her husband is expected to take the stand in her defense, People reports. A witness list filed by lawyers for Lindsay Clancy shows that her husband, Patrick Clancy, the children's father, will testify as her attorneys pursue an insanity defense centered on postpartum psychosis. (On Monday, Lindsay Clancy's defense was denied its request to have other women take the stand to describe their own experience with postpartum mental illness, Boston.com reports.)

Prosecutors say Lindsay sent Patrick out to pick up dinner on Jan. 24, 2023, then strangled their children—Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months—with exercise bands before jumping from a second-story window. Patrick, who has publicly said he forgives his wife, has also sued several of her healthcare providers, alleging she was rapidly prescribed multiple psychiatric medications and later reported hearing a commanding male voice. Lindsay has also filed a malpractice suit, claiming medical providers failed to diagnose her bipolar disorder and instead prescribed a cocktail of meds that triggered a psychotic break. She has since been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Prosecutors, meanwhile, have dropped three strangulation counts, folding them into the murder charges, WPRI reports.
