Candidate Mike Lindell Is Registered in Wrong State

If Mike Lindell intends to vote for himself in Minnesota's Aug. 11 Republican primary for governor, he's going to have to register first. The secretary of state's office says the MyPillow CEO has "no active record" in Minnesota, the Minnesota Star Tribune reports, and a review of voter files shows Lindell remains actively registered in Texas. The candidate, who has made "election integrity" his signature issue, is in luck, the New York Times points out: The state lets voters register as late as the day of the election.

Lindell, who has been endorsed by President Trump, said he reestablished residency in Minnesota after living for about a year in Texas, where his voter registration is tied to a house owned by an LLC in Lufkin. He last voted in Minnesota in 2022 and said he voted in Texas in 2024. It's legal to be registered in more than one state as long as a person doesn't vote in both. Lindell doesn't need to be registered to vote in Minnesota to run for governor, but he appears to be the only major candidate without an active state registration as he faces Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth and GOP-endorsed Kendall Qualls in the primary. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is running in the Democratic primary. "Obviously I'm going to vote," Lindell said, adding that it won't be in Texas because he no longer lives there.
