FIFA's official celebration shot from Spain's World Cup win has one very notable near-absence. In photos shared on the organization's X account after Spain's 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in New Jersey on Sunday, only the edge of President Trump's suit is visible, with the rest of him cropped out as the champions leap around team captain Rodri and the trophy, People reports. Spain's own social media posts likewise highlighted players and the trophy, not the US president who helped hand over their medals.

Trump had joined FIFA chief Gianni Infantino on the field for the ceremony, where boos could be heard from the crowd as he waved to the stands. After the medals were presented and Trump and Infantino shook hands with Rodri, Trump lingered on the stage, despite apparent efforts by Infantino to usher him away, the Los Angeles Times reports. Rodri waited until Trump was at the edge of the stage before he lifted the trophy.

  • Dani Garrido, soccer commentator for Spain's Cadena SER radio station, praised Rodri for holding on "until Trump got out of the picture," the Telegraph reports. "That takes a lot of personality, bravo to Rodri," he said. "It's no joke. We see people in photographs who shouldn't be there, and he stayed until the end, until Trump stepped out of the frame, because he clearly wanted to be in the picture. And when he left, he lifted the World Cup."
