President Trump is heading back to the mic at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, reports ABC News, three months after gunfire cut the event short. The president will appear Friday night at a do-over of the April gathering, which was halted when authorities say Cole Allen opened fire inside the Washington Hilton, prompting chaos among thousands of journalists and guests. "The president looks forward to finishing what he started before a despicable assassination attempt derailed the original event," said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

"I don't want images of my colleagues hiding under a table to be the last images from this year, of all years," says White House Correspondents' Association President Weijia Jiang, referring to the 250th anniversary of the nation, per People. This time, the dinner shifts to the Waldorf Astoria, with the Secret Service vowing tightened security and noting that its protocols worked in April, even as the agency says it's currently facing an unprecedented number of threats, reports CBS News. Officer Victor Gonzales, whose vest stopped a bullet as he responded to the attack, will receive a new President's Award for Exceptional Service, along with staff from the Hilton. Mentalist Oz Pearlman is set to return as the entertainment, with organizers saying they're intent on finishing "the program that was interrupted."
