Ohio's governor's race took a jarring turn Sunday at the Canfield Fair near Youngstown, where Democratic candidate Amy Acton was rushed by an armed man, her campaign says. Authorities arrested 38-year-old Patrick Havas on assault and disorderly conduct charges after security stopped him before he reached Acton, the Columbus Dispatch reports. Former Rep. John Boccieri, who witnessed the incident, said the man plowed through the crowd, knocking down several people, including an elderly man.
Mahoning County's sheriff said two older adults were injured; both were treated and released. The state police released a statement saying Havas had two handguns, a Taser, and brass knuckles, but that no weapons were ever brandished, the AP reports. Acton, who was not hurt, helped tend to the injured. Both Acton's campaign and her Republican opponent Vivek Ramaswamy's team condemned the violence, as did Gov. Mike DeWine and other Ohio leaders, Fox 8 reports.
