Florida's top prosecutor says a tractor-trailer cab doubled as a "rolling prison" and crime scene for years—and he wants the people accused of running it executed. Attorney General James Uthmeier announced his office will pursue the death penalty against Keisha Monique Epps, 51, and her fiancé, 37-year-old Tamra Marshon Stewart, who allegedly kept four children living in the cab for up to seven years and repeatedly abused them, per Fox News. The kids—two girls and two boys ages 5, 6, and 9—were allegedly barred from school, denied medical care, and forced to relieve themselves in cups and bags while Epps worked a Miami-to-Atlanta trucking route.
Uthmeier described the case as "one of, if not the most, horrific that my team has ever had to work on." He said the girls endured years of sexual abuse by Stewart, who allegedly admitted to multiple assaults; the boys were allegedly beaten when they tried to intervene. One child had an untreated sexually transmitted infection, and two had serious burn scars, investigators said. The children reported Epps knew of the abuse and left them alone with Stewart. Florida law permits capital punishment for certain child sex crimes, and Uthmeier vowed to "seek executions" in the case. Epps and Stewart, arrested August 6, remain jailed in Duval County on charges including sexual battery, child molestation, and child neglect causing permanent disfigurement. Stewart is being held without bond; Epps' bond is set at $400,000, per the New York Post.
